CURRIE, Walter ~ Sept. 28, 1938-Mar. 15, 2014 peacefully, at the St. Catharines Hospital with his family and friends by his bedside at the age of 75. Devoted husband and best friend of 52 years to Glenda (VanAlstyne) Currie. Loving father of Scott (Laura) Currie and Craig (Brandi) Currie. Treasured papa of Emma and Briana Currie. Loving brother of Beverley (Gary) Honsberger, Lorna (Gino) Gaudet and brother-in-law of Cathy (Larry) Morris and Joanne VanAlstyne. Special uncle of many nieces and nephews. Walter will be remembered by his many cousins and friends. Predeceased by his parents Hank (1976) and Hazel (1994) Currie. He worked for General Motors for 32 years as a Maintenance Supervisor, retiring in 1997. Walter was a past member of the Merritton Lions Club, member and coach for the M.A.A. Hockey and Ball, a volunteer for the Merritton Fire Dept., a 10 year volunteer driver for F.A.C.S., a member of the Drum Corps, Niagara Militaires and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Br. #138, Merritton. He loved to fish up north with his buddies, enjoyed listening to his music during dialysis but most of all babysitting his granddaughters Emma and Briana. A special thank you to his wonderful nurses in the Dialysis Unit, he loved you all and to the P.C. Unit at the St. Catharines Hospital for their care and compassion in the last few days. Also thank you to his Nephrologist, Dr. Lagrotteria for his care and compassion. He will be forever missed by family and friends for his sense of humour. He never complained about his illness, he just dealt with it.
