MONAGHAN, THOMAS - It is with heavy hearts that the Monaghan family is announcing the passing of Thomas, on September 14, 2026, aged 88 at Niagara Regional Health Marotta Family Hospital. Thomas was married to the love of his life Marlene for 50 years before her passing in 2017. He is survived by his sons, Paul (Chrystyna), Mark (Melissa) and Gary, as well as grandchildren Kyle (Jen), Kailey (Cole), Amanda (Clay), Riley (Holden), Brennan, and Christian, and great grandchildren Claire and Oliver. He is predeceased by his 11 siblings. After the loss of his parents as a small child, he was raised by his sisters, Cathy (Tom), Ester (Gus) and Sadie (Jim), and supported by his brothers Davey (Joyce) and Brian (Marilyn). Brian and Marilyn Pullar were very dear to both him and Marlene. He is loved by his wife’s siblings Peter (Jean), Denis, Billy (Hillary), Vera (George), and Sheila (Russell), who reside in Scotland, and Joyce (Salah) in Germany. He was uncle to many nieces and nephews, grand and even great-grand nieces and nephews. Before marrying, he spent three years in the British Army as a paratrooper, seeing active duty in the Suez Canal, and six years as a sailor in the Merchant Navy, travelling the world while gathering stories. In retirement, Tam explored Canada, the UK, Europe, and even China with his beloved wife. He enjoyed hosting visitors to Canada, sparring with his quick Scottish wit and telling funny stories with his thick Scottish lilt. His greatest joy was listening to his grandchildren share their stories, and he made regular phone calls for updates about family near and far. His last few years were spent making friends out of new neighbours, quickly becoming a vital part of his building’s community. Relatives and friends will be welcomed at Bocchinfuso Funeral Home 2 Regent Street, Thorold on Thursday, September 17, 2026 from 11 am until 1 pm; at 1 pm a service will be held in the Lamb Chapel of the funeral home. Internment at Lakeview Cemetery. Donations in memory of Thomas may be made to Thorold Community Care. Online condolences may be left at www.Bocchinfuosfh.com
