SHAW, SYLVIA ANN (née Krayewski; July 25, 1955) passed away peacefully at sunset on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at Marotta Family Hospital in St. Catharines, in her 72nd year. Survived by her youngest son Jon, she is predeceased by her beloved husband Don and eldest son Chris. Remembered by her sister Val and her partner Mike; her niece Rachel and her partner Vince; her nephew Jason and his partner Teresa; as well as numerous extended family members, friends, cousins, fellow crafters, dog lovers and bingo enthusiasts.
Sylvia was an avid baker and crafter who shared her creativity with family, neighbours and friends, often through generous spreads of baked goods, handmade wreaths and other DIY projects. She loved her dogs, reading, journaling and playing bingo; her final game was played just days before her passing. Sylvia adored summers in Orillia and Muskoka with family and friends, and she could often be found lakeside or at the beach with a good book.In her later years, Sylvia formed incredibly deep and caring relationships with the PSWs, nurses, caretakers and fellow residents at Niagara Gardens Senior Living and Westhills Care Centre. Her son Jon shares that this chapter of Sylvia’s life was truly meaningful, special and full of joy. It was wonderful to watch her rediscover her love of crafting, writing and community while forming so many special new relationships.She absolutely adored visits from Smudge the Therapy Dog, and loved spending time with her dear friend Kevin, with whom she shared countless laughs and quality time. Her son Jon extends his sincere gratitude to all of the caring staff whose kindness, compassion, and companionship brought comfort and joy to her life during these past 8 years. You always knew Mom was gabbing away with a visitor, sometimes more than one, because their laughter could be heard from down the hall.That laughter will be fondly remembered and deeply missed.At Sylvia’s requests, cremation has taken place.
