ASUMANG-BIRIKORANG, Rev'd Martin ~ with profound sadness, we announce the passing of Martin at the St. Catharines Hospital, on Friday, May 31, 2013 at the age of 65. Beloved husband of Kathryn (Jordan) Asumang-Birikorang. Loving father of Patricia (John), Emmanuel, Andrew and Michael and step father of Abbey Peters (Mike) and Ainslie Peters. Grandpa will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his grandchildren William, Wendy and Amanda. Dear brother of Justina, Comfort, Maggie all in Ghana, West Africa and Georgina, Alberta both of Toronto. Predeceased by his parents Mary and Rock and 3 brothers. Son-in-law of John and the late Anita (2002) Jordan. Martin was born in 1947 in Ghana, West Africa, where he was educated and ordained a Presbyterian minister in 1974. In 1977 he attended Columbia Theological Seminary for a Masters Degree, in Atlanta, Georgia. In 1979 he attended the Seoul Presbyterian Theological Seminary in Korea to earn his second Masters Degree. In 1981 Martin served three years in Cochrane, Ontario, then in 1985 went to Melrose United Church, Hamilton, then was called to Port Stanley United Church, serving Fingal and Dexter. On October 1, 1991 Martin accepted a call to Trinity United Church, in Thorold, where he served until retiring in 2005.
