Listen to Obituary
CORRADO, PIETRO "Peter" It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our cherished husband, Papa, Nonno, Bisnonno and friend to many, Peter Corrado. Peter was born in Pisticci, Matera, Italy on February 9, 1923 and in his 94th year was called to heaven on September 16, 2016, surrounded by his loving family. Beloved husband of Angelina (Rondinone), adored father of Alida Bryk, Grace Custode (Tony), Carmelinda Corrado and Laura Corrado; cherished Nonno of Paula, Hope, Angela, Martin, Pia and Tasia (Brett); loved Bisnonno of Isabella, Xavier and Teyah. Peter is welcomed by his treasured mother Grazia Maria D'Angella, father Leonardo Antonio and brothers Vincenzo, Domenico, Bartolomeo and his best friend, Father Franco Barbieri. A veteran of WWII, Peter served in Torino, Italy as a Corporal and Sergeant. A shoemaker by trade, Peter opened a shoe store in Pisticci. Peter came to Thorold in 1952 and retired as a Maintenance Supervisor with Public Works of Canada. He excelled at many of his passions; with an affinity for music, Peter was a popular singer and entertainer in the Niagara Region and beyond. With the gift of his beautiful tenor voice, Peter shared his talent singing in Italian, English and Spanish by serenading around tables and performing at many public events. An avid cyclist in both Italy and Canada, Peter was well-known in the Thorold community. He was invited by Johnny Lombardi to move to Toronto as an entertainer but was content to remain in the small town of Thorold where he was proud to have built the first house in his subdivision in 1956. A parishioner of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church for over 50 years, Peter was a dedicated member of the choir lending his beautiful voice. Paramount to Peter was loving and providing for his family. Peter had a kind and giving heart and was instrumental in helping many people by opening his home to new immigrants, friends and those in need. He was a highly-intelligent, perceptive and quick-witted individual. His beautiful sense of humour was infectious and he used this gift and his singing voice to bring joy to everyone in his presence right until his passing. While he loved his home town in Italy, he was proud to move to Canada and become a citizen in 1957. He was grateful for the opportunities that Canada provided to him and his family. Special thanks to Dr. Ron Casselman for his kind and gentle care of Papa for many years. In addition, a heartfelt thank you is extended to his many compassionate caregivers and to Father Chris Szczepanik for his countless visits and support to the family. Friends will be received at the BOCCHINFUSO FUNERAL HOME, 2 Regent Street, Thorold, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday, September 20, 2016 with vigil prayers at 4 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 21 Queen Street South on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at 11:30 a.m. Rite of Committal at Pleasantview Cemetery, Fonthill. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church Building Fund would be appreciated by the family. Online condolences may be made at www.bocchinfusofh.com.
