McNAMARA, KEVIN BARRY - Passed away suddenly and totally unexpectedly while doing something he loved: hiking on the Bruce Trail with a group of his fellow hikers, on Sunday, April 19, 2026 two weeks shy of his 73rd birthday. Kevin was predeceased by his beloved wife Susan (née Boyce), his father Jerry McNamara, his in-laws Joyce and Richard Boyce and sister-in-law Debbie Wassill. He is survived by his sister Linda Middleton (Lionel), brother-in-law Peter (Michelle) Boyce, brother-in-law Ken (Joanne) Boyce, close family friend Lori-Ann and cherished friend Janet. Uncle Kevin will be greatly missed by Melissa, Kevin and Natalie, Susie and Nico, Kate, Emily and Alex, Renee and Jake, Spencer and Meaghan, and Lindsay and Ben and great uncle Kevin will also be missed by Sophie, Olivia and Madden, and Lilliana.  Kevin grew up in Thorold and had many connections to the people of his hometown. Kevin attended Dennis Morris high school and was on the school's football team of which he had fond memories. This led to a love for the CFL, first the Hamilton Ticats and the Saskatchewan RoughRiders, eventually getting his wife hooked also. Kevin attended Brock University where he studied geology. This would prove fateful as this is where he met his soulmate, Susan. Shortly after getting married, Susan and Kevin moved to Saskatoon. Kevin worked at different jobs in geology and then charted a new course and got a job working for the parks department in Saskatoon. He completed courses from the University of Guelph to help further his knowledge in this field. After approximately 22 years in Saskatoon, circumstances brought them back to Ontario, where he accepted a job working in the parks department in Mississauga. During this time, they lived first in Burlington, and then came full circle back to Niagara, settling in Thorold. When talking about his time working in the parks department, Kevin always said if he knew how much he was going to love this kind of work he would have changed careers much earlier than he did. Eventually, retirement came calling and he savoured the freedom that the extra time afforded him to enjoy life. Kevin was a well read individual and enjoyed a vast array of literature. He also enjoyed a wide range of music especially acts associated with his Irish heritage. Kevin was always proud of his Irish roots. He enjoyed photography, even lending his talents to do pictures for the church directory. He had a keen interest in astronomy and would spend nights gazing at the stars with his own telescope. He really enjoyed hiking on various trails, with the Bruce Trail being his favourite. He also enjoyed working out at the Canada Games center. Having a conversation with Kevin was always interesting with topics ranging from politics and religion and everything in between. Susan and Kevin where also great supporters of many charitable causes that were dear to their hearts. They also had a great love of cats, having many over the years. Kevin was raised Catholic, then with Susan attended many United Churches in the different places they lived. Kevin always had a thirst for knowledge and kept an open mind about his spiritual life. Kevin always said that meeting and marrying Susan was the best thing that ever happened to him. They were soulmates in every respect, and when Susan passed away she took a piece of his heart and soul with her. We take comfort knowing that they are reunited. For those he leaves behind, we will miss his steady and loving presence in our lives. A big thank you to Kevin's Bruce Trail group for being there for him and the first responders and doctors for attending to him. To honour Kevin's life, there will be a visitation followed by a Funeral Liturgy Outside of Mass at the Bocchinfuso Funeral Home, 2 Regent Street, Thorold, Ontario on Saturday, April 25, 2026 from 10:30 am until noon, with the service starting at noon in the Lamb Chapel of the funeral home.. Feel free to attend either the visitation or the Liturgy or both. Cremation will follow and Kevin will be laid to rest with Susan at Victoria Lawn Cemetery. Donations to a charity close to your heart, in Kevin's honour would be greatly appreciated by his family and may be left along with online condolences at www.Bocchinfusofh.com
