BROOKES, Karen Leslie - We are heartbroken to announce the sudden passing of Karen Leslie Brookes at Niagara Health Marotta Family Hospital on Sunday, July 27, 2025 shortly after celebrating her 57th birthday. Owner, Operator, heart and soul of Cosmo’s Diner, serving the Thorold community for 30 years. Devoted Mom to Niki, Nolan and Noura. Cherished daughter of Trent and Marcy. Much loved sister of Wendy Paleczny and aunt to Hawkin Paleczny. Adored by her many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, neighbors, and those in the Thorold community. Karen was a well-known chef, journalist, entrepreneur and business owner, but her first love was being a mother to her three children. Finding joy in providing her customers at Comos’s a place to gather and celebrate, Karen offered the sort of kindness and conversation that will be forever remembered by all. Recognized nationally and internationally, Cosmo’s Diner was recently featured in a television series on Crave. Voted best breakfast and brunch in Niagara for many years running, Karen’s dedication, work ethic and love made her business a true pillar in the community. Beyond her professional accolades, Karen was known for her strength, hope and perseverance that was deeply admired by all. She leaves behind a legacy of love that will live on in those she loved.

Loved ones will gather for a celebration of life at a later date.
