Maria Giuseppe “Josephine” Savoia
October 15, 1926 – August 2, 2025
With sadness we announce the passing of our beautiful Mother and Matriarch of our family, Josephine Savoia (nee Lizzotti), who peacefully passed away at Meadows of Dorchester, Long Term Care Home on Saturday, August 2, 2025 in her 99th year. Josephine was the beloved wife of the late Joseph Savoia (1990) and daughter of the late Maria Grazia (D’Ammizio) and Francesco Lizzotti. She is the loving mother of Christina, Ross (Karen), Natalie, Francis (Geraline), Theresa (Danny) Zember, Anita (the late Lyle) Satchell, Mary Anne (Pierre)
Paradis, Carmela (Henry), Christopher (Judy Ann) and predeceased by her daughter Rose Marie Chmay (2022). Josephine was the proud Nonna to Joseph (Crystal), Nigel (Lisa), Michael (Vanessa), Antonio, Brent, Spencer (Jesse), Echo, Clinton (Kristee), Siera (Ben), Piersen, the late Farrah (Filippo), Teydan, Tanyr, Teja, Tawny and many step grandchildren. Josephine was Bisnonna to 12 great grandchildren and great step-grandchildren. Josephine is survived by her sisters-in-law Catharine Cicci (the late Robert), Eileen Savoia (the late Humbert) and Juliette Canto (the late Primo). She will be missed by her many nieces, nephews (3 predeceased) and family friends. Josephine was predeceased by her brother Louis Lizzotti (the late Irene), sister Edith Navarroli (the late Amadio), sister Clementine Doherty (the late Ronald) and brother Anthony. Predeceased by her mother and father-in-law Carmela and Rosario Savoia, sisters-in-law Antoinette Savoia, Mary Piasentino (the late Joseph) and Margaret Savoia.
Josephine’s early teens were spent learning and teaching tap dancing and ballet. Her love of dancing brought her and Joe to many dinner dances at Club Capri through the years. Much of her time was spent in the kitchen baking and cooking delicious family dinners, and raising her 10 children. When she decided to get a job as Secretary at Holy Rosary School, she was loved by many students until her retirement at age 65. How fortunate she was to work right next door to her home!
Josephine was a devout Catholic who selflessly gave of her time singing in the Church Choir at the Italian mass, and to the Catholic Womens League, which she was a member of for 73 years. She also loved playing Friday night Bingo at the Church Hall. Josephine was a loving, caring and kind lady who found joy in helping others by donating her time to canvas for the Cancer Society and running the Seniors Bingo at Holy Rosary Hall. She was also a member of the Latina Ladies Lodge (Sons of Italy). We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the caregivers and staff at The Meadows of Dorchester and Cobblestone Gardens for their kindness and compassionate care during Mom’s stay with them. We appreciate all that they did to make her comfortable and happy. A special thank you to Dr. Tatzel for his dedicated care to Mom. Josephine’s family will receive family and friends at Bocchinfuso Funeral Home, 2 Regent Street, Thorold, on Thursday, August 7, 2025 from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM .
