LUCAS, JANET THERESA - It’s with heavy hearts that we share the news of Janet passing, on Saturday, September 27, 2025, after a very long battle of liver disease, surrounded by family in her home she left peacefully. Amazing, single mother to Misty Lucas and Stephanie (Sean) Madden. Proud Mema to Declan, Graysen, Ariyah and Whalen. Loving daughter of Audrey Ashburn and the late Mitchel Lucas Senior. Stepdaughter to the late John Ashburn. Sister to Mitchel Lucas Junior. Born and raised in Merritton Jan made friends everywhere she went, spreading her contagious smile. Before Jan’s failed back surgery in 2002, she was a hairdresser working in salons and finally opened Jan’s Hair Shop to be home with her girls in north St. Catharines. After the surgery she learned to put that chapter behind her, wheelchair bound she looked for new hobbies: traveling, and card making where she met all kinds of new friends along the ride near and far. We know she’s not alone and will be reunited with her grandson Kaiden Trudel, bonus daughter Marrisa Spicer, her travel and email buddy Elaine Eskritt and many others who have walked this life with Jan. A celebration of Jan’s life will be held on Sunday, October 12, 2025 at Some Place Else Bar and Grill 49 Scott Street West, St. Catharines from 2:00 – 6:00 PM. I want to say a special thank you to mom’s care team that she’s had in our home over the past 23 years. A lot of you have stayed in touch and even have become family. Like Charlene Lewicki who became her best friend and a huge part of our life. I want to thank the nurses we have had since moving to Welland that happened to also become her palliative care team thank you Anna and Tara for being there not just for my mom but us girls as well, she loved you both dearly.
