SERRAVALLE, GIUSEPPE "JOE" - It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Joe, on Thursday, June 12, 2025 at Niagara Health Marotta Family Hospital, having just celebrated his 101st birthday, lovingly surrounded by his family. He will now be reunited with his cherished wife Chiarina (née Venneri). Devoted father to Irene (Morris) Yurkewich and Fran (Fred) Lang. Treasured Papa to Kelly (Erik) Liddell, Josh (Taylor) and Cameron (Aurora). Joe is survived by his sister-in-law Emma (late Frank) and brother-in-law Ugo (Rosemary). Cherished Zio to his many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Chiarina and Francesco Serravalle; his in laws Luigi and Marietta Venneri; his siblings Maria (Ottavio) and Peter (Lina) and siblings-in-law Helen (Peter), Assunta (Armando), Cesare "John" (surviving spouse Pat), the late Frank (surviving spouse Rose).
Joe was born and raised in Mangone, Calabria, Italy. In 1950, he immigrated to Canada, followed by his wife and daughter in 1953 where they resided in Thorold. Facing many challenges along the way, Joe opened "Joe's shoe repair shop". Here he spent countless days repairing, creating, and shining shoes for over 15 years. After closing the doors to his shoe business, he went to work at Abitibi Paper, where he made many lifelong friends.
Joe was passionate about his garden, where he would spend many days growing and caring for his fruits and vegetables. His expertise and skills in the garden allowed him to provide for his family and even earned him a spot in the local newspaper.
His second passion was a love of music. He enjoyed playing guitar and mandolin with friends and family, and he loved to sing at any given movement. He believed music brought everyone together, in times of happiness, and in sadness. He shared his musical passion with everyone he knew, especially his grandson Erik, where some of his fondest memories were playing guitar with him for friends and family.
Whether it was going to the racetrack, drinking red wine, hosting family gatherings, or teaching his grandsons, Josh and Cam how to play soccer in the basement of his house, Joe's favourite thing in life was being with family. He made you feel happy, he made you laugh, and he was always the life of the party. His loving, kind, and inviting personality was one of a kind.
