He arrived in Canada in December 1953 where he worked in construction for several years and later at Hotel Dieu Hospital in St. Catharines for 24 years until his retirement at age 65. He was a founding member of Club Castropignano and remained a member of present day. Joe had a strong passion for vegetable gardening. He was able to enjoy many bountiful harvests especially after his retirement. He and his wife had a long, healthy and happy life together. They enjoyed happy occasions with many friends and a large extended family. After his wife's death in 2006, things were not the same anymore and on January 7, 2013 he suffered a stroke which completely changed his life. However, he persevered and never lost hope. He kept a positive attitude and a very sharp mind to the very end. His family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of CCAC, the home care workers and the staff at Tufford Nursing Home for the excellent professional care that they extended to our loved one at the end of his life.
