Giovanni Di Santo

Di SANTO, Giovanni - Peacefully at Valley Park Lodge, Niagara Falls on Wednesday, March 2, 2016, in his 98th year. Husband of the late Maria (Spina). Loving father of Phyllis (John Di Costanzo) and Dominic Di Santo (Cathy). Nonno will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Frank Di Costanzo, Michael Di Santo (Hanna) and Anne Marie Di Santo and by his great granddaughter Elaina Di Santo. Pre-deceased by two brothers and three sisters and survived by his brother-in-law Joe Spina of B.C. Zio will also be missed by his nephew Nick DiSanto (Josephine) and their children Lina (Chris) and Joe and by many other nieces and nephews in Calgary, B.C., Argentina, Italy and France.
Giovanni was a Veteran of W.W. II serving with the 5th Regiment Bersagliere. He was wounded on December 18, 1940 and spent the next 18 months in various hospitals in Italy. He received a medal of valour several years later for his war efforts. Giovanni was a faithful member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, Thorold, and also a member of Club Belvedere and Sezione Combattendi of St. Catharines "Club Roma". Friends will be received at the BOCCHINFUSO FUNERAL HOME, 2 Regent Street, Thorold, from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. & 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. Sunday, March 6, 2016 with Vigil Prayers recited at 3:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 21 Queen Street South, Thorold, on Monday, March 7, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. Rite of Committal at Lakeview Cemetery. If desired, memorial donations to Holy Rosary Church or to the charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
