Elisabetta Mengia

Mengia, Elisabetta (Sardella) ~ peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, at the St. Catharines General Hospital, on Tuesday, November 1, 2011 at the age of 85. Elisabetta was born on March 30, 1926 in Castropignano, Campobasso, Italy. She came to Canada in 1961 where she settled in Thorold with her husband Domenico, to raise their family. Beloved wife of the late Domenico Mengia (Feb. 1990). Loving mother of Filomena "Phyllis" (Marshall) Chipman, Carmine (Dawn) Mengia, Mary (Randy) Cabana and John (Cindy) Mengia. Dear nona of Johnny (Maria-Eve), Lisa (Curtis), Domenic (Christi), Donato (Lisa), Melanie (Bryan), Brandon, Kathy, Elizabeth, Matthew, Joshua and Jonathan and great nona of Landon and Abigail. Predeceased by parents Donato and Lucia Sardella. Survived by sister Mary (John) DiFelice of Argentina, Michael (Mary) Sardella of Welland and sister-in-law of Angelina Sardella of Welland. Predeceased by Maria Pasquale (Angelo) D'Onofrio, Ferrucio Sardella and Guido (Ida) Sardella of Argentina. Elisabetta will be sadly missed by many nieces and nephews in Argentina, Italy and Canada. Nona prided herself on having all her family over on Sunday for lunch. Special thank you to Dr. Sinton, all the nurses at CCAC, coordinator Wanda, all the PSW's from Paramed and the St. Catharines General Hospital, Palliative Care Unit for all their care and compassion.
