PIZZACALLA, ELENA (née Panunto) – It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Elena on Monday, February 6, 2023, who died peacefully in her sleep at home with her rosary in her hand. Beloved wife of the late Michele. Loving mother of Mario (Helen), Lucia (Lorenzo) D’Alessandro and Linda. Proud and caring Nonna to grandchildren Roman (Angela), Lisa (David), Laurence and Anthony and great grandchildren Julian, August, Adrian and one more yet to be born. Elena is survived by her brother Santino (Filomena) Panunto and sisters-in-law Lucia (the late Carmine), Carmela (the late Diodore), Grazietta (the late Nicola),  but predeceased by siblings Giuseppina (Giuseppe), Angelo (Nina), Rosina (Carmine), Maria (surviving spouse Giovanni) and Carmine (Lucia) and siblings-in-law Giuseppe (Giuseppina), Pietro (Pina) and Filomena (Vincenzo). She will be fondly remembered by her many nieces and nephews in Canada and Italy. Elena loved her garden, her family and most of all feeding her family. She had an incredibly strong faith that kept her going through the trials of life. Friends will be received at BOCCHINFUSO FUNERAL HOME 2 Regent Street, Thorold on Thursday, February 9, 2023 from 2:00 -4:00 PM and 6:00 – 8:00 PM. Vigil Prayers will be recited at 7:00 PM. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday at OUR LADY OF THE HOLY ROSARY CHURCH, 21 Queen Street South, Thorold at 11:00 AM. Rite of Committal Lakeview Cemetery. If desired, donations in Elena’s memory may be made to Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, Hotel Dieu Shaver or the Canadian Cultural Society of the Deaf.
