Sep 13, 1936 — Oct 3, 2026
St. Catharines, Ontario
ROY, EDGAR – With great sadness we announce the passing of our father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, Edgar, on Saturday, October 3, 2026 at Niagara Health – Marotta Family Hospital, just weeks after celebrating his 90th birthday. Predeceased by his beloved wife Jean (née McCreadie) in 2008, his son Kenny in 1980 and his grandson Sean in 2020, he leaves behind his children Jim McCreadie, Cindy Sanford, Debbie (Kevin) Higgins, Michelle (Ty) Harrison and Joe Roy. Proud Grandpa to Kelly (Nate) Brochu, Sara Campbell (Pete), Sherry McCreadie, Curtis Blakely, Kayla Blakely (Tayler) and Colin Blakely. He was delighted to have 9 great grandchildren. Edgar will be deeply missed by his good friend Marilyn Featherstone, and his many extended family members and friends. He was predeceased by five other of siblings. A familiar face at the St. Catharines Seniors Centre, Edgar regularly drove himself there to enjoy cards, including euchre and cribbage, the occasional game of shuffleboard, and, on one memorable occasion, even yoga. He was a famous mall walker at Fairview Mall, where he was always impressed that the other walkers remembered his name, even if he couldn’t remember theirs. Born in New Brunswick, Edgar moved to Ontario at the age of 19 speaking only French. Through determination and hard work, he learned English while attending night school and was fortunate to be mentored by a fellow French tradesman who helped him learn the construction industry. His perseverance led him to earn his welding certification, and he enjoyed a long and successful career working in manufacturing throughout Southern Ontario. Edgar possessed remarkable determination and strength of will. Once he set his mind to something, there was little chance of changing it. He was a black belt in judo and spent a good deal of his time volunteering in the running of the Hitishita Judo Club in Oakville. Arrangements entrusted to Bocchinfuso Funeral Home. A Celebration of Edgar’s life is being planned, details to follow. He will be laid to rest with his wife and son at Victoria Lawn Cemetery. If desired, donations may be made to Canadian Cancer Society in his memory. Online condolences may be left at www.Bocchinfusofh.com
