Roach, Donald Gordon ~ peacefully, at the West Park Health Centre, on Monday, May 31, 2010 in his 82nd year. Loving husband of 58 years to Carol. Dear father of four sons Michael and Colleen, Kevin and Denise, Mark and Syl, Brian and Lynne, and two daughters, Karen and Tony Citrigno, Maureen and Chris Dunn. Loving Papa to Steven (Christina), Tyler (Rebecca), Allison (Chris), Cassandra, Marlie, Kelsey, and Michyla. Dear brother of Patrick (Norma) and Jerry (Patricia) and brother-in-law of Terry Hollands (Mara), Patrick Luciani, Patricia Fortura, Beverly Cook and Carole Jamieson. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents, Eugene and Lily (Catterall) Roach, Carol's parents George and Doris Hollands, infant grandson Jarrett Dunn, siblings Lily, Jack, June, and Terry, and brothers- in- law Nick Fortura and Tom Cook. Don was born in Windle Village and was a lifelong resident of Thorold and a parishioner of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church where he was an altar boy and later, an usher. He played and later coached baseball and hockey. He was the goalie of the 47-48 Thorold Legion Mounts hockey team that won the Provincial Ontario Jr. C title, and he was the recipient of the James Whyte Memorial Trophy 48-49. Don and Carol enjoyed travelling after Don's retirement from the Ontario Paper Mill in 1987 after almost 40 years. He was an Associate Member of the Royal Canadian Legion Br. #17, Thorold and a lifelong fan of the Cleveland Indians and the Toronto Maple Leafs. Don was a quiet, gentle person who loved big band music, playing pool and cards and doing jigsaw puzzles. For the last year, Don resided at West Park Health Centre. The family is appreciative and thankful for the loving care given to Don during the past year. Special thanks to family and friends for their support of Don and Carol through dad's battle with dementia.
