David Ashbury Hamilton

Hamilton, Rev. David Ashbury ~ peacefully, surrounded by his loving family at the St. Catharines General Hospital on Friday, February 6, 2009 at the age of 77. Beloved and devoted husband of 45 years to Anne (Churchill) Hamilton. Loving father of Jane (Rafael) Garcia and Debbie (Jonathan) Golden. Grandpa will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Sara, Kate and Liam Garcia and Samantha Golden. Dear brother of Joan and Rowan. David was born on October 12, 1931 in Belfast, Northern Ireland. He came to Canada in 1956 where he resided in Hamilton and worked for Merit Insurance. David and Anne were married in 1963 at Christ Church Brampton. He was a Fellow of the Insurance Institute of Canada in 1965, graduated from Trinity Divinity College in 1976 with a L.T.H. in Theology and was ordained Deacon in the Anglican Church, Diocese of Niagara in 1977. David served in the parish, St. Mark's in Orangeville until he was ordained a priest and served as Rector of the 3 point parish, St. Paul's in Shelburne, St. James in Dundalk and Christ Church in Whitfield for 8 years. He was called to be the Rector of St. James Church in Merritton for 10 years until his retirement in 1997. He served the Anglican Church as interim priest at St. Mark's in N-O-T-L, St. David's in Welland, All Saints in Ridgeway and St. John's in Ridgemount for 3 years. David was Padre of the Royal Canadian Legion Br. #138, Merritton for 22 years and a long time member of Lookout Point Golf and Country Club.
