DEL GOBBO, ALBERICO - It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, nonno, brother, and zio on August 17, 2026, at the age of 79 at Niagara Health Marotta Family Hospital.Alberico passed away peacefully while holding the hand of the love of his life, just as he had throughout their 56 years of marriage.Alberico was born in Limosano, Molise, Italy, where he lived, attended school, and worked on his parents’ farm until he completed his leva in the aeronautical division of the Italian Army. At the age of 21, his parents sent him to Canada in search of a more prosperous life. He settled in Thorold, where he began working, got married, built a home, and raised a family. He worked at Foster Wheeler/Trenergy for over 40 years.
Diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease at the age of 59, Alberico persevered and continued living his life to the fullest despite the challenges he faced.
Alberico was the fiercest protector and provider for his family, who meant everything to him. He was incredibly thoughtful, generous, and humble. To his family, he was the strongest man and the hardest worker—someone who told it like it was and had a playful sense of humour. Everyone who knew him felt his love of life.
Alberico was so passionate about gardening (his happy place), soccer (Inter Milan), hockey (Montreal Canadiens), Formula 1 (Ferrari), tennis, playing Italian cards, music, dancing (when he was still able, you couldn't get him off the dance floor), the beach, espresso corretto, making homemade wine, olives, sauce and creative homemade tools. Whenever he got something in his head it had to be done…yesterday! He believed that you should ‘parla poco ma dice assai’ (speak little but say a lot). Everyone will miss his charisma, his talent as the garden whisperer (no one grew figs or tomatoes that tasted like his) and his larger-than-life personality.
He is survived by his wife, Chiara (née Gualtieri); his children, Joseph (the late Heather) Del Gobbo, Lisa (John) Hanounik, and Sandra (Joseph) Smith; and his grandchildren, Paul, Ciara, Luca, and Alexa. He was a beloved brother to Antonietta Minicucci (the late Lidio Pulla), Pasqualina (Mario) Piscitelli, Michelina Nunzia Del Gobbo (Nick Lalli), and Ernesto (Isabel) Del Gobbo, and a cherished uncle to many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Giuseppe Del Gobbo and Assunta Ricciuto, and his sister, Maria Del Gobbo (Antonio Curcillo).
Visitors will be received at BOCCHINFUSO FUNERAL HOME 2 Regent Street, Thorold on Friday, August 21, 2026 from 2:00 – 4:00 and 6:00-8:00 PM. Vigil prayers will be recited at 3:00 PM. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church on Saturday at 10:00 AM. Rite of Committal Pleasantview Memorial Gardens. If desired, donations in Alberico’s memory may be made to Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church Building Fund or Parkinson’s Canada. Online condolences may be left at www.Bocchinfusofh.com
